RESEARCH
Dr. Doris Wesley has authored books, conference proceedings, book chapters, papers (under review), and academic articles published in leading journals and conferences on communication, peace, conflict, media, and international gender. She has received multiple academic awards and honors, including the 2024 Top Research Paper Award from the National Communication Association and the 2023 Emerging Open Scholarship Mention from the Canadian Social Knowledge Institute. She has been awarded several grants, including the 2022 Diversity Grant from the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. She continues to employ robust methodologies across her expressions.
TEACHING
Dr. Doris Wesley is a seasoned educator and a 5th-time “Outstanding Teaching Award” recipient from three institutions—Southern Illinois University (SIUC), the University of North Carolina (UNCG), and North Carolina State University (NCSU). With almost a decade developing learning materials, designing courses, delivering lectures, training, and facilitating workshops, she has taught 1000+ diverse audiences across several academic and non-academic institutions in both small and large gatherings, as well as in online, in-person, and hybrid settings. She takes pleasure in positively influencing learners by simplifying complex ideas and subjects into manageable chunks and straightforward solutions to facilitate their application.
SPEAKING
Dr. Doris Wesley has presented academic research at 40+ national and international conferences. She has organized, moderated, and hosted institutional, organizational, and departmental symposiums, seminars, and workshops. She has also delivered 20+ invited talks and presentations to diverse global audiences, including the keynote speaking at the 2025 Empowering Herself Conference and the 2024 Women’s Economic Council’s (WEC) Annual Conference. She has also been featured on national and international platforms like WRAL-TV, the Entrepreneurial You Podcast, Fishbowl Radio Network, the Leadership Window Podcast, the Mindset Mastery Moments Podcast, the Followell Ignite Leadership Podcast, and a host of other media.
SERVICE
Dr. Doris Wesley currently occupies the position of the vice-chair of the Peace and Conflict Communication Division (PCCD) at the National Communication Association (NCA), while serving as a committee member for the International Conference on Gender Research (ICGR), a reviewer for several reputable academic journals, such as the Western Journal of Communication and the Journal of International & Intercultural Communication—to mention a few—and an advocate at the GEM Daughters Network. She previously occupied the role of the secretary of the PCCD, the president of the Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media (CRDM) Association at the North Carolina State University (NCSU), and served as a board of director for organizations such as the NCSU Feed The Pack Food Pantry and We Speak To Testify (WEST)
